Getting To Know James Castle
I will be facilitating a 3 week instructional class starting November 1st at the Vinearts Studio in Garden City, Idaho. (1 Thursday night per week 6:30pm to 8:30pm)
Since there has not been a lot of time to promote this, I expect a small class size. While the atmosphere will be relaxed and conversational, the design process be engaging and will require focus and determination.
I am so excited about sharing this study with other artists interested in doing something new and expanding their repertoire into craft and design in the outsider style of Idaho Artist James Castle (1900-1977).
This summer I started my own study of his work after seeing a gallery showing at BAM. I used the cult followed sci-fi TV series “Firefly & subsequent film “Serenity” as the post modern subject of my study. (Seen above)
I will encourage participants to pick a current subject of their choice to create a juxtaposition in replicating his art. Which should be both engaging, and bring interesting results.
This is one of those opportunities that you just need to do even if you don’t quite understand the value, your mind will open up to this once we get started, trust me. And what is great, is that artists of any skill level can participate. Please plan to come join me.

"No art education student should graduate without an understanding and appreciation for Idaho self-taught artist James Castle" ~ Kathleen Keys Boise State
(Note: there are some scholarships available if you really want to participate but are excluded due to financial hardship. Also the 12 age limit is somewhat flexible depending on the situation and the child.)
